Here's my latest salvo in response to :- http://www.telegraph.co.uk/opinion/main.jhtml?xml=/opinion/2008/07/10/do... =x=x=x=x=x=x=x=x=x=x= Christopher Booker is wrong about Global Warming To : Editors, The Daily Telegraph Dear Madam / Sir, Although I concur with the political cynicism and policy dismissiveness in Christopher Booker's piece "Our leaders are in carbon-cloud cuckoo land" of 10th July, I have to demand corrections and apologies from you for publishing his baseless opinions about the science and evidence of Global Warming, which betray a severe lack of knowledge on his part, and poor editorial censure on your part. The science of Global Warming is not "distinctly questionable" as Booker puts it, and there is not a "fundamental flaw" in the theory. Temperatures have been rising, consistently, globally, with trends making themselves very apparent. One only needs to look at the new Blob Chart from NASA to see this :- http://data.giss.nasa.gov/gistemp/graphs/Ts_vs.year+month.lrg.gif This one chart completely undermines Booker's erroneous statement. He is also at fault when he says "a much more convincing link can be seen in the activity of the sun", which has been refuted and debunked, and my view is that Booker is being not only provocative, but arrogantly http://environment.newscientist.com/channel/earth/climate-change/dn11650 I agree with Booker that we face blackouts in Britain because of inadequate Energy planning. The British Government did not acknowledge the long-term trends in Energy demand and supply when they had a planning window. Ten years ago it was predicted that North Sea Oil and Gas would peak and decline. We should have implemented Energy Efficiency and Energy Conservation measures then, and we would not be facing price problems in the Economy now. The future of Energy is from locally available Renewable, Sustainable sources, so we should start to invest in these at the same levels as the current subsidies and incentives in Fossil Fuels and Nuclear Power, or our Energy Infrastructure will be about as much good as a chocolate teapot by 2015. http://www.zerocarbonbritain.com Yours sincerely, =x=x=x=x=x=x=x=x=x=x= |

Same reply as usual
1. I'd like to know how the NASA chart is derived.
2. If you follow the links in some of the news scientist article you list, you get quite a wide variety of views and information.
3. The absolute cause/effect of MM CO2 causing global warming is still not proven.
4. Check out some of the reports done on renewables, while i agree we need to do something on this front, it's not all rosey e.g wind turbines can at times actually draw more power than they produce (you poo-pooed this guys article previously on the grounds he once worked for rolls royce).
5. Heaven forbid that people read the article in the telegraph, get curious, and go out and do their own research, rather than be drip fed your opinions to blindly follow.
Darn...beaten to it !
Was going to get typing, then read Barelysane's post and realised I had no need to type !
