Bolivian President Evo Morales announced on 20th December that a world conference of social movements will be held in Bolivia, as a response to the failure of COP15.  The meeting will take place on April 22, which is the International Day of Mother Earth.  “It will be a great meeting where we’ll be able to come up with solutions for the problem of climate change,” he said.

Doubtless a follow on from the World Social Forum held last Jan / Feb in Belem, Brazil to mirror the World Economic Forum in Davos.

This is doubly important on the world scene, because of President Morales indigenous Indian roots. The native indigenous peoples of the world have a vital and strategic part to play in the climate cause for a number of reasons. (Reference Abya Yala and the Treaty of Teotuahakan).

Neighbouring Ecuador is the first country to write into its constitution the rights for every individual to have free access to clean drinking water.

The World Social Forum is  very appropriate movement to  stage a massive people based voice to the G groups of nations

There exists in front of our eyes the greatest challenge ever to have presented itself in the history of the human race. It is so basic that it threatens all our futures. No money will buy anyone out of the consequences of our ignoring of the challenge.

The challenge comes from how we are caring for and using our home, the planet.

So far I have deliberately avoided the words climate change because those words always appear to lead to scientific debate and conspiracies.

The result of Copenhagen conference on climate has led to many people and organizations who were involved feeling confused, others feeling frustrated and lacking any clear direction for future action. One thing is clear, the real issues not dealt with at Copenhagen show just how much we all should not place our trust in politicians. The roots of this economic disease began 518 years ago

What was the real issue? Economy for a fair, just and sustainable world. I use the word economy with its Greek origins in mind – meaning “managing a household” Yes, I mean our house, our home…. Planet earth!

So what is the present situation?

Probably the majority of citizens still believing governments will protect them from disasters, conflict and disease.
Established N.G.O´s like World Wildlife Fund, 350.org, Campaign for Climate Change (to name but 3) searching for direction to harness the minority of people who have a passion they want to move forward into action.
A minority of scientists spreading confusion over climate change issues.
A few conspiracy theorists also helping to spread fear and confusion.

Education.
Teaching children has an obvious importance for the future.
But for the majority of adult citizens, an educational process is required to take them out of their slumber! Take off their blindfold! I don’t think it would take much to achieve results when I see the generosity and kindness expressed at times of natural disaster or on major health issue like famine or AIDS.
Grand parents and senior citizens should also be awakened from their sleep! I am one such person and I don’t want to die with the thought that my grandchildren will one day think “ Why did he let this happen?”

The logic behind protecting bio diversity (this year is International Year for Protection of Biodiversity), is taught in most schools. If it is taught to children, what do they think when they see the mess that is being made by adults all around them?

Finding unity within our diversity
Be it climate change or saving whales & dolphins or rainforest, many people are attracted to particular expressions of their passion for life. What this requires is a medium through which this passion for life is harnessed and co-ordinated effectively. The best I can come up with so far is the stirring into action by the World Social Forum. But I would like to see many of these worldwide NG O´s cooperating with each other more closely in their work to save the REAL ECONOMY OF OUR PLANET
People need to be better informed, encouraged to grow the right values inside themselves, and link together so that they see they are not isolated but part of a worldwide social movement.

I am disappointed that there seems little interest or enthusiasm for this blog. It appears to bear out the views of those involved in this year´s  World Social Forum gatherings that there is a massive lack of enthusiasm from anyone in Fortress Europe to achieve real change.

I acknowledge there are national  issues which should be addressed in Britain. I am also hearing that the bankers at Davos are considering a B.20 to represent bankers at G20 meetings. It will seem appropriate for the social / environmental movements to form similar groups - this reminds me of  TOES  the OTHER Economic SUMMITS I used to attend years ago.

Where is the focus for Campaign for Climate Change going?

The problem is one of apathy. Passion to make changes is very limited. People feel powerless, the sense of pride in oneself and the country has diminished. Now that the Kent police are planning to operate BAE drones for surveillance, do you really think you, and the Campaign for Climate Change will be allowed to make changes?

Hello Ninejaguar and Drachsi,

Agree with what you have written. Where is the focus going is an important point , combining with the education/edutainment issues. The green movement since the early nineties has gone from being a tiny fringe. As Green issues have got popularised everyone from Hummvee shwartseneger-(not the easiest name to spell) to Monsanto have jumped on the green bandwaggon. GMO crops for the starving etc.... The green movement have often been so committed to the small is beautiful mantra, (which was perfect for when the book was written and for many years after) yet due to todays conditions has to evolve rapidly in order to stay at the forefront of the game.  Meanwhile GMO companies were in Klimaforum offering funding to green projects. The green movement unless it adapts really quickly could be outmaneouvered by the greenwashers and worse.

The awareness that has been created over two/three decades by the greens and has been created due to a great sacrifice and committment by many  could slip away, gains in awareness not utilised for earth gain but capiltalised upon by the multinational profit driven genetically engineered  greens.  Without the green movement having a  reorganise, determining what really are the most effective strategieswithin the next year or two the future could be bleek. The non greens will muddy the waters further, the mainstream parties with all the right buzz words will win all the votes and the public will assume that the world is being greened  by those in power with more special drones in the sky to monitor carbon credits and parlimentary expenses as well  no doubt.  Fo rinstance with GMO's if the greens would have come up with an effective enough lableing campaign, we would not be in the situation we are in today. Ie probably all eating GMOs yet just ignore this as so little is labled.

We have had a strategy of how the greens could protect themselves better, expand hugely, and control the whole greening process of society. Was it welcomed, no .. Was it fairly investingated no, was it ignorred, held back, nit picked, and supressed, yes!  If it had been given a fair hearing and embracred would the greens have kept better control over the green movement, yes, would more people have been educated about the environment yes. Would more forests have been saved yes, more renewable energy be in cities, towns villages, yes,  more people educated abou the plight of the planet,  yes, indigenous people helped more yes, more recycling in cities yes, in towns yes, etc, etc, etc, etce, etc, etc,etc,etc...We have developed this into a model or science we call joined-up-thinking. It is fully backed up by science and takes seven hours to present to a group, we prepared the presentation of this however after one year communicating with Dr. Caroline Lucus, and after asking her, pleading with her, begging her to discus and debate this. Answering her questions in letters that ranged from three pages to twenty pages,  we were then refered to the membership office of the green party without explanation  and then told that they may or may not even answer our letters.  Seven years ago we wrote about Joined-up-thinking  into a document and sent it out to some leading radical green think tanks, and to the existing government of the day. ie Tony Blairs and various MP's, FOE. Greenpeace etc. We got very little response,  other than Tony Bliar telling us to deal with DEFRA and then him saying outside Downing St. on tv. words to the effect of, the future of sustainable development was joined up thinking.  Lovely words that mean nothing without the full strategy.. How prophetic that was he though. Go to the Schumacher college site today  and you will find written into their mission statement accompanied by a number of diferent key green organisations references to "joined up thinking". Do a search on the internet and  you will find a personal development book on the subject, something by DEFRA on the subject and a new course in Auraville India on joined up thinking. Try to find an article on exactly what "joined up thinking" actually is within the green context and you will find nothing, other than a few paragraphs we have published on the subject. a number of years ago. Combining thoughts and actions on a broad scale  is clearly the way forward within a very smart communicative framework.  During almost two decades, dispite every day requesting we have not been offered a way of putting forward this complete strategy.

This strategy that can save peoples lives, not one or two, but by the thousand, not to mention what it could do for the enviornment or for Haiti. People die everyday because people will not listen to this or nick bits off of it for the benefit of their careers. Haiti is one example of many yet even in this case, What is the top reason  that the aid organisations have  cited  is wrong with the situation, the inadequate aid infastructure, and lack of cooperation between NGOs,  this strategy helps solve that  ongoing issue in many ways. yet, "Give us the sound bites and never mind the practical breakthroughs is so familiar ". It can most accurately be defined as the fastest and most effective method of addressing climate change. Yet doors have been closed.  Firmly closed for two decades. Green doors, red doors and blue doors!

Some green politicians have not been eager to discuss this, because it is different from the usual green model, it takes vision and  imagination in order to fully understand it, yet it can achieve so much.   It takes an understanding of branches of science such as psychology and sociology,  habitually ignored by the greens. Having begging Dr. Lucas twice to listen,  we  decided to write to the Conservatives and Labour and outline our strategy for addressing climate change globally to them, got one reply from ten sent out, yet heard the language patterns of win-win ecological solutions even on the news last night, Osbourne, it sounded so familiar. In essence, in my opinion after spending almost every day of the last nineteen  years  working on solutions to climate change what is it that todays greens and the main parties have in common, grab  the catchphrase, spin, concept, new paradigm whatever you want to call it shout it out loud and ignore the real content, never mind the science the detailed strategy,  if it sdoesnt fit in exactly with what we are already doing it must be wrong, next!.  The aspects that can rally change in our world, ignore it.. I write this with a heavy heart, a very heavy heart, I would love someone to write something here that makes me think otherwise, yet realistically to continue to believe that we live in a world of people all getting together to do the right thing, people really concerned about the future generations about life, love and nature, when I think of any organisation being able to operate with these higher principles as integral to how they operate  I live with hope. The most likely outcome of the next five years is that if the greens are not prepared to expand their points of reference and the science they look at and start looking to and trusting new talent rather than seeing it as a threat and therefore just taking from it , then I fear greatly  that the green movement will miss the opportunities in shaping the world, opportunities, that they deserve and have done more than anyone to create, without vision people that have not got the planets best interests at heart, will win. In one of our other entries  we explained how it could be possible to get 165million trees planted in 10 minutes with the correct levels of support and organisation.  Big actions that can really create a WOW FACTOR IN THE WORLD. Organisation right now is essential. As for a one off summit on social groups, with the correct infastructure we could make that summitt, and Klimaforum on going, sustainable and in our neighbourhoods and thats where ecoplaza could fit into this ecoplazaparadiseoasis on www.filmclick.comIf you want to make a change to the planet for the better lobby the green party and the insist they take a proper decent and honest review of the best work within there own ranks and that which surrounds it, because this is where the new post COP15 focus can be derived from rather than looking to the next conference and the one after that, look properly at what we already have and then improve upon it.
